Find the solitaire rules that suit you

Solitaire is a family of card puzzles, not one interchangeable ruleset. Some games build foundations by suit, some provide temporary storage cells, and others remove cards through sums or neighboring ranks. Compare the formats below before choosing a deal. For a different rules-first challenge beyond cards, the related daily-puzzle collection offers logic and word games.

Build foundations in Klondike

Classic Solitaire asks you to build the foundations from Ace to King by suit. On the tableau, build downward while alternating colors. Keep those two directions separate when deciding whether a card belongs on another column or a foundation.

Use temporary storage carefully

Frozen Freecell gives you free cells for temporarily holding cards, then reduces their number in later levels. Its tableau builds downward in alternating colors. Treat an available cell as working space and consider how to free it again before filling it.

Clear cards by sum or neighboring rank

Pyramid Solitaire removes combinations totaling 13, with a King removable on its own. Tripeaks Solitaire instead removes a card one rank above or below the open card. Neither uses the same move rule as Klondike, so check the active card or total before selecting a move.

Why does a move work in one solitaire game but not another?

The variants have different rules. Classic Solitaire uses alternating colors on the tableau, Pyramid uses a total of 13, and Tripeaks compares a card with the open card's rank. Check the current game's help rather than applying one variant's rule to every deal.

What is the practical difference between these Freecell and Klondike picks?

Both featured versions use descending, alternating-color tableau moves, but Frozen Freecell explicitly provides temporary cells and reduces them across levels. Its storage decisions are therefore a useful contrast to the Classic Solitaire deal.
