A Dark Room

A cold room and a single fire slowly grow into a much larger adventure. Gather supplies, respond to visitors and decide how to use each new resource as the interface reveals more of the world. Its appeal is the steady discovery of new possibilities, told through short passages rather than cutscenes. Give the quiet opening a little time, read the event log and explore without looking up the story's surprises.

  • A story discovered through play
  • Resource planning with expanding systems
  • Minimalist presentation and many language options

BEFORE YOUR NEXT ROUND

A Dark Room: useful things to know

A minimalist text adventure that begins with tending a fire and gradually introduces resources and new actions.

Is the small set of actions at the start intentional?

Yes. Begin with Light Fire and keep using Stoke Fire when it becomes available. The room warms and events unfold over time, so read the new messages instead of expecting every part of the adventure to appear immediately.

Why should I keep wood instead of spending it all on building?

Wood supports the fire as well as early construction. Check the cost of a new building and keep some fuel available; a bigger settlement is useful, but it does not replace the opening task of maintaining the fire.
